John 3:31–32 ESV
31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.
Why Must Jesus Increase (Remember last week was about Intensity)?
He alone comes from above so IS above all!
In Contrast, John was “out of the earth” [ek tais ges] - in this case ges does not indicate “sinful” as “kosmos” would, but is simply the point of origin...
And, because John (the Baptist) was “out of the earth” he speaks from an “earthly” perspective - again, in this case not a “sinful and worldly” but just from the perspective of a man born into this world...
He [Jesus] comes from above, and more particularly, from “heaven” thus He is above all. In reference to “Intensity” what comes from the realm of the Creator Must eclipse..
In regard to “Heavenly” since the creator has now appeared in the flesh, he must be here to bring a very special message.
He [Jesus] give testimony to what he has “seen with the eyes” and “hears with the hears”
But in a Sinful World, even though the Creator Himself has come with a testimony, and evidence - “No one receives His testimony...”
